Tree down in the Park

Feb 28, 2022 | News

Storm Franklin (or was it Eunice? They all started to run together) the 3rd weekend in February managed to bring down a tree in the Woodland Walk, seeming to narrowly miss an acorn but also to crush the some of the cable fencing. Nature kicking off a bit.

To report a fallen tree, you can use the Stockport Council online form: https://www.stockport.gov.uk/start/report-a-problem-with-verges-and-trees#
For fallen trees that might pose a danger or or dangerously leaning tree, you can also ring the Council on 0161 217 6111.

If the tree is blocking a road or right of way, the council does act very quickly. On this occasion, the footpath is not really blocked so moving it would probably not be a priority.

In fact, one view is that fallen trees should left in place if possible. According a recent article in the i newspaper, John Healey, Professor of Forest Sciences at Bangor University, fallen trees have a positive effect on the woodland, allowing more light onto the woodland floor, thus assisting faster germination.

And in a park, it can become a handy seat for an adult or climbing frame for young children!
