Yet another twist and turn in the ‘Wild Corner’ at Park Road and Buckingham Road.
Because the path along the Wild Corner often transformed into an ad-hoc pond when it poured with rain, the Stockport grounds crew built a soakaway in the corner back in 2021. This really helped the drainage of the area.
In April this year, the Friends of Heaton Moor Park further transformed the area by installing of a Willow Tunnel. It leads from one side of the Wild Corner to the other, providing what seems to be a rather delightful route to the younger visitors to the park.
Luckily we have had some good rainfall so far this summer, so the willow tunnel seems to be rooting in well. The Stockport Council Arborist has advised that even thirsty willows may not make that much difference to the drainage in the winter, but given the rains in the summer it can still help keep the area from flooding.
The last step in the willow tunnel installation has been to put down 2 tonnes of play bark on its path, as some parts are still prone to a bit of mud.
Many thanks to all who supported the Carols in the Park 2023 and who donate through LocalGiving. These funds helped to pay for the willow tunnel and bark.
