Each 3rd Saturday, of the month 10am-12noon, the Friends of Heaton Moor Park host a ‘Garden in the Park’ morning. We’d like to invite everyone to come along and join in at least once – just an hour of your time can make a big different – one of our monthly ‘Garden in the Park Days.’
This is an opportunity where local residents (and visitors!) can help care for their local park and get to know its structure and horticulture.
The council can no longer afford to offer any gardening services to its park, so for many years now, the Friends of Heaton Moor Park have stepped up to fill the gap. And you can too! Even coming along once can make a difference.
Tools, gloves, Hi-Viz vests and snacks are provided. Under 16s are welcome as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. We have kid size vests and gloves.
Over the last few years, on Gardening Days, along with general maintenance of the flower beds, the Friends have:
- Added two new flower beds in the Cloverleaf field
- Created a new flower bed near the netball court
- Transformed the Star Bed, formerly planted with non-pollinating annuals to a perennial flower bed
- Provided plants for the 8 re-instated urns around the cloverleaf field.
- Installed a willow tunnel in the Wild Corner
- Planted bulbs near the football pitch and tennis court
- Repaired two large runs of the dry stone walls and several smaller sections
- Created a strip of wildflower meadow around two sides of the tennis court
- Begun to level out the football field
